May 2025 Throwback

Summary of the month

Although I couldn’t update my blog at all in May, I was still able to do some illustration activities.

There isn’t much to write about in this summary, but here’s this month’s wrap-up.

Days I Drew: 23!

Compared to last month, my ‘falling asleep mid-task’ rate was a bit higher, and there were 8 days when I didn’t touch my art at all.

I really wanted to alternate between illustration production and practice, but I couldn’t manage the allocation well.

So, yeah, the sad part is I didn’t get to practice at all in May.

Finished Pieces

As for completed illustrations, there was the post-correction Teto illustration that I got feedback on, and a fan art piece for the independent VTuber, Kaganomiya-Chiruha. The third one didn’t make it (though I still have time)

The third one is still in the rough stage, so it’s not public yet.

As for things that made me happy, my Override Teto illustration subtly ranked on Pixiv, and even now I’m still getting likes here and there, so those occasional notifications really lift my spirits.

Apparently, you can’t see the regional rankings in the past logs, so it’s just a memory now, but still…

Even though I know I shouldn’t care about the numbers, if it makes me happy, it just makes me happy, you know?

How Many Times I Hit the Bar

Should be 7 times. I think I also drank somewhere in the 3rd week, but I couldn’t record it…

New Year’s Goals: Where Am I At?

So, my goals for this year are still these three bad boys:

  • Cut down the time it takes to finish one illustration.
  • Actually finish at least two illustrations a month.
  • Aim for triple-digit likes on my art.

The road to shortening it is still long.

Also, regarding the ‘2 or more pieces’ for the second checkmark, I’m counting the revised version of Override as one piece, so I think May was pretty much a cheat.

I’m drawing the third piece now, but who knows when this will be finished…

I let my guard down and took a nap today, and losing about 5 hours was painful.

As for the third checkmark, it’d be great if I could hit that.

Bluesky situation

I really need to fix up my profile a bit more. Definitely. Yep.

Looking back at what I wanted to do in May

If I don’t look back at what I wanted to do, it’ll just be all talk, you know? So, I’m gonna do a review.

To summarize what I wanted to do, it comes down to these two points:

  • I want to do tracing/copying to make characters look similar.
  • For the tracing subjects mentioned above, I’ll focus on artists I’m interested in.

As a result, as I mentioned before, I couldn’t allocate time to practice, so there are no deliverables there. Man, it’s tough trying to complete tasks without setting a deadline.

Things I want to do in June

For now, I’m just gonna keep listing the things I wanted to do in May.

The Override project revealed that I didn’t really understand perspective, so I’d like to restudy it. But I probably won’t be able to get through too many things if I list them all, so I’ll prioritize trying out tracing/copying first.

  • I want to do tracing/copying to make characters look similar.
  • For the tracing subjects mentioned above, I’ll focus on artists I’m interested in.

This is what you mean, right?

However, I can already see that June’s going to be pretty hectic with work, so I’m worried that I’ll only really be able to focus on my illustration practice on weekends.

Summary

I think it was good that I was able to draw fan art for that independent VTuber I’d always wanted to draw.

I drew it as an anniversary illustration, but I didn’t make it in time for the actual anniversary at all.

The main reason for the delay was that I kept drawing partway, then re-evaluating the pose and composition, and repeating that process.

Actually, this is my second fan art for this person, but the atmosphere has changed quite a lot.

I guess if I don’t practice making things look similar, they won’t automatically start resembling the original…

Here’s the person’s actual account.

I want to be able to make them look more similar.
